I know that I have been absent for almost a year, but I have had several things that happened to me and my family that put a damper on my blogging. The first thing was the sale of my grandparents home last year. The home is pictured above. My husband is in the yard and my father is on the porch. This house is almost 100 years old. My father and eight of his other siblings were born here. My grandfather and one of my aunts died at this house so there was a-lot of history in this house. I grew up about 100 feet from here. I was in this house everyday from the time I could walk. This picture was taken before my dad passed in April of 2017. He stayed behind to take care of his mom and dad while his other siblings moved to Indiana to make their living. My dad loved farming. He didn’t make much money at it but he loved it. I spent a-lot of my childhood here and I wanted to purchase it to keep it in the family but it wasn’t to be, some of my dad’s brother’s and nieces objected so it was sold at auction. A nice Mennonite couple bought it so hopefully it will continue to be farmed.
The next tragedy was that my mom passed suddenly. Her health had been going down since my dad died. In November of 2018, we learned that her cancer had returned. On December 7, she suffered a health event while we were putting her in the car to bring her back from a doctor’s appointment in Nashville. Her heart stopped and they had to perform CPR. She ended up in the intensive care at Vanderbilt, where she passed on December 12th. My brother, his wife and I were at her side when she passed. I don’t know that words can express the sorrow we felt. I know my brother and I are grateful we had them for as long as we did but the void our parents have left is numbing.
